Daniel in the Lions Den
Commissioned work- NOT FOR SALE
The lions surrounding Daniel assume a protective, rather than aggressive, stance. According to our Sources, all men possess both an animal and G-dly soul. However, Daniel had achieved such a high spiritual level, that the lions were unable to recognize the animal in him.

The Figure of Daniel sits in a state of deep contemplation- one hand placed on his heart and the other on his forehead. This represents the balance of the heart and intellect that man should aspire to in order to see the Truth.

The three lions, each with his own rock, represent the outstanding characteristics of the three Patriarchs and the foundation stones on which the world stands.
The bottom lion has the quality of kindness, an attribute of Abraham.
The upper right lion has the quality of discipline, an attribute of Isaac
The lion on the left has the quality of truth, an attribute of Jacob

Daniel is seated between kindness and discipline, because if a man can balance these two qualities, he may be worthy of seeing the Truth.

The lion on the left is standing, because the Truth stands.
