"If this is so, why am I?" (Parshat Toldot)
Pastel drawing of Rivkah 50cm x 65cm
Rivkah represents the Jewish Mother in her full capacity to understand how her actions and labors have a direct bearing on whether or not her children realize their full potential for good or for evil -an awesome responsibility!

It’s interesting to note that Rivka’s death is not recorded in Tanach. Perhaps it’s because Rivka never dies. She’s alive and well and living within every Mother of Israel.
"Jeremiah said: When I was going back to
Jerusalem I lifted up my eyes and saw a woman
sitting at the top of a mountain. She was clothed
in black, her hair disheveled, crying and pleading
for someone to comfort her. I, too, was crying and
pleading "who will comfort me?" I approached her
and spoke to her saying: "If you are a woman, speak
to me, but if you are a spirit depart from me."

She answered, "I am your Mother Zion."
I told her, "G-d will comfort you...Flesh and blood
built you, flesh and blood destroyed you. But in
the time-to-come (says the Lord) "I will rebuild you."
(Pesikta Rabbasi end of 26)
